When people think of fund raising, they tend to think about charities first and foremost.  This is understandable, but they are not the only organisations that raise funds by organising events and selling gifts and other items.

Schools can also be found raising funds in various ways, and since all the pupils can get involved as well, this is definitely a fun thing to do.  It also helps to raise awareness of the school and what it does to the wider community, through the pupils, the parents and the families.

There are plenty of ways that schools raise funds, and just as a charity will often use a number of different ways on a constant basis, schools can do the same.

We Care Project encourage children to provide community care services in Gibraltar.

One very popular event tends to be the school disco.  A small entrance fee will be charged and food and drink can also be supplied at a small cost, or possibly for free.  The entrance fee would cover the supplies and there would be enough over to go towards the costs of the school.

Another good idea is to have a school fete or open day.  These generally take place during the summer and make good use of the school grounds.  There may be games involved too, where pupils and parents can get involved and perhaps win prizes.

The FLIP project encourages local students to become involved in communal & charitable giving Gibraltar.

Events like this usually have a number of stalls that have things for sale as well.  For instance some of the teachers or parents may bake some cakes and biscuits to sell.  This will raise funds for the school, as will sales of second hand items brought in by those attending.

Many fundraising ideas work best when the kids love getting involved with them.  One of the most popular ones of all must surely be non uniform day.  Every pupil brings in a nominal amount of money – usually a pound or so – for the privilege of not having to wear their uniform for the day.

Other popular ideas include sponsored events like a sponsored swim or walk.  This also has the benefit of getting the kids out and about and involved in some activities.  Sports days can be very popular as well.

It will usually be the teachers who come up with suitable ideas for school fund raising.  However with that said the parent/teacher association for each school may have a say as well, as will the pupils.  Some fund raising ideas carry on every year, such as the open day and the sports day for example.  Others are one off events.

Raising funds for schools is a good activity that helps to educate the children on how good it feels to raise money for a worthwhile cause.  If they can see that money going to a good cause they will be more inclined to help raise more in the future.
